Location recording is one of the most interesting and complex tasks in audio engineering. Every space has its own unique character and allowing this to flavour the outcome is one of audio recordings great challenges. Real spaces tend to influence sound in a way difficult to replicate by any other means.

On location audio generally goes direct to multi-track HDR via Focusrite blue series or Audient pre-amps and with a Mackie Onyx 1620 undertaking monitoring. The resulting multi-track is then returned to the studio for mixing (transfer to Mac via Apogee AD/DA).

Sometimes tracks are partially prepared in the studio, taken to location for over-dubs and then returned to the studio for final mixing.
