Mastering audio - as anyone who has read Bob Katz on the subject will know - is an activity requiring highly specialised equipment and skills. Urthworks is not a 'mastering house', if your material is for label release then that is what you will need. A list of specialised mastering facilities can be found on the 'Links' page of this site within their own category.

Urthworks does however have sufficient professional mastering tools to radically improve the majority of recordings, even to release quality. In hardware - Apogee's Rosetta conversion ensures the very best audio quality, the DBX Quantum is commonly referred to as a 'finalizer' as its multi-band compression, limiting, eq and digital conversion facilities are designed with mastering in mind. In software - Waves Mastering Suite includes linear phase equalisation and multi-band compression. The benefits of their L2 limiter are also widely known and respected.

Waves Linear Phase Multiband Compressor   If you have recordings of your own which really need that 'something more', then Urthworks is the ideal place to carry out your audio mastering tasks.

Audio editing of all kinds is frequently carried out at Urthworks - generally in software audio editors such as Wavelab. The line between editing and restoration is not always clear - material can arrive in any format and may require remediation before editing. Once the audio is conditioned then editing tasks range from simple compilation through to complex cutting, processing and crossfading procedures.
